4 more things you should avoid when planning your wedding
Not thinking though wedding outfits
Wedding outfits often take more time to sort than expected. If you want something bespoke, you will need to allow for 9 + months for this. For something off the peg that will require some minor alterations, allow at least 3 months. Especially if you are getting married in peak wedding season when everyone else will be utilising seamstress’/tailors.
I would also recommend thinking about the Groom & Groomsmen/women’s outfits and ensuring that they wont clash with each other. As well as making sure that the Bridesmaids outfits compliment the Bridesmaids complex, style and their flowers.
Not thinking of the overall design
Similar to number 1 on this list - if you do not think about the overall wedding design you can end up with event elements that clash or do not make sense with each other.
If you are utilising multiple suppliers for different elements, such as table linen, crockery and flowers. You could end up accidentally creating clashing elements or picking items that are not a good colour match.
If hiring an event coordinator for the whole process, they can help with this with you loop them in on your event design ideas. Many event coordinators are also event designers and would be delighted to assist.
Using a supplier just because they come highly recommended from a friend
If your friends or family members have gotten married recently they are likely to recommend their suppliers for your day. Whilst their suppliers may have been perfect for their day, they are not necessarily the best suppliers for your day.
Always meet or get on a call with your suppliers to assist if their personality and skill set / style matches what you want for your wedding. Before any supplier, put together a list of questions that you want to ask them to ensure you don’t forget. If you do or any other questions come up, send them a follow up email with any questions to ensure you are happy with your suppliers.
Not utilising your support network
Wedding planning can be a stressful time depending on how organised you are. Always utilise your support network, they can help you with any DIY elements for your day, asking them to help with decor or taking you out for a dinner and a drink to decompress after a marathon planning session.
